About the position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Database Administrator to manage and optimize our diverse database infrastructure, focusing on MySQL, MySQL Aurora, Redshift, and AWS Cloud Services. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems while providing leadership to the database administration team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in production environments and cloud-based solutions, with a focus on database sharding and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain MySQL, MySQL Aurora, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB database schemas, tables, indexes, and relationships.
  • Deploy and manage MySQL Aurora instances, RedShift, PostgreSQL instances, and DynamoDB tables for high availability and performance.
  • Configure and optimize Redshift clusters for data warehousing and analytics workloads.
  • Implement database sharding strategies to improve scalability and performance.
  • Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies for various databases.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and security policies for different databases.
  • Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions using AWS services.
  • Lead and mentor a team of database administrators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and optimize database solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with database technologies and industry trends.
  • Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with expertise in MySQL, MySQL Aurora, and Redshift.
  • In-depth knowledge of database architectures, replication, clustering, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud services such as RDS, Aurora, Redshift, DynamoDB, EC2, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience implementing database sharding techniques for horizontal partitioning of data.
  • Strong understanding of database security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, and compliance.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team of DBAs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty).
  • Experience with NoSQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS Cloud services.
