About the position

The Lead Committee Assistant position at the Legislative Research Commission is a part-time role focused on providing support to the Kentucky General Assembly. This nonpartisan position requires strong organizational and communication skills to effectively train and collaborate with committee assistant staff in a politically charged environment. The role involves developing training materials, conducting presentations, and assisting in the evaluation of candidates for committee assistant positions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all aspects of the committee assistant position at a high level.
  • Create and develop training materials for incoming committee assistants.
  • Develop a trusting working relationship with committee assistant staff by consulting and collaborating with each member of the committee staff team.
  • Resolve work-related issues that impact committee assistant staff.
  • Complete training presentations for all committee assistants on session and interim procedures.
  • Assist with interviews and evaluating candidates for committee assistant.
  • Perform one-on-one training with individual committee assistants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; Associates or higher degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of committee assistant experience required.
