About the position

This position as part of the HR Operations and Total Rewards Team will play a crucial role in assisting in designing, implementing, and managing Proterra's compensation programs to be our competitive advantage to attract, retain, and motivate talent. The ideal candidate will bring 12 years of expertise in compensation analysis, program design, and strategic compensation planning and will be responsible for analyzing compensation data, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational goals, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making related to employee compensation programs. You will conduct comprehensive market research to benchmark compensation structures and practices against industry standards and key competitors and make recommendations based on trends to ensure competitiveness. Additionally, you will assist in the development and implementation of compensation strategies that align with Proterra's objectives and market. This includes the design and implementation of job evaluations, pay grades, and salary ranges, as well as providing recommendations for enhancements to salary ranges, bonus structures, and incentive programs. Your role will also involve developing and maintaining compensation benchmarking databases and tools for easy benchmarking, maintaining Proterra's job matrix with updates to benchmark positions, and auditing for any updates or mismatches. You will oversee the administration of compensation programs within UKG, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and industry best practices. Staying current on any regulatory changes will be essential to mitigate risks and ensure fair compensation practices. You will collaborate with the Finance team to manage and administer compensation budgets and forecasts, serve as a point of contact for compensation-related questions from employees and managers, and provide guidance on compensation policies, procedures, and practices to HR, managers, and employees. Performing detailed analysis of compensation data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas of opportunity will be a key responsibility, along with preparing reports on compensation metrics, program effectiveness, and market competitiveness for leadership. Collaboration with the HRIS Analyst to identify and implement improvements to compensation systems and processes will also be part of your duties, along with other responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Finance team to manage and administer compensation budgets and forecasts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, Business Administration, Finance or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in compensation analysis, total reward, or related field.
  • Experience building compensation programs including salary grades, job architecture, job matrices, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of compensation principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using HRIS and compensation management systems (UKG, Workday, ADP, etc.).
  • Ability to present complex data and concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High level of integrity and discretion with a strong commitment to confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred.
