SAGE Dining Services® is seeking a Lead Cook/Sous Chef for a private school located in the heart of West Knoxville, conveniently off I-40 Interstate and Cedar Bluff Road. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a supportive community with great customers and a focus on culinary excellence. The role is ideal for those who are passionate about the culinary arts and hospitality, particularly for individuals who enjoy cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients. Unlike many culinary positions, this role provides the benefit of daytime hours, allowing for a better work-life balance. The working hours are from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, with additional earning potential through catered events outside the normal school schedule. As a Lead Cook/Sous Chef, you will be responsible for ensuring that all food is displayed attractively and meets the high standards set by SAGE. You will interact with guests and team members in a cheerful manner, providing exceptional service. Your duties will include overseeing the preparation of menu items according to SAGE recipes, maintaining proper food handling and sanitation techniques, and ensuring cleanliness in all work areas. You will also assist with inventory management and training of culinary team members, setting a positive example as a leader in the kitchen. The role may require you to adapt to additional duties as assigned by management and endure exposure to varying temperatures in the kitchen environment. Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all food is appropriately displayed and visually appealing.
  • Interact cheerfully with SAGE guests and Team Members, providing service with a smile.
  • Oversee the preparation of menu items in strict accordance with SAGE recipes.
  • Use proper food handling, storage, and sanitation techniques always (HACCP).
  • Clean all work areas, equipment, and guest service areas on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with the inventory of food products and developing order sheets.
  • Train, motivate, and oversee Cooks and culinary Team Members.
  • Set a good example each day by being a role model and leader in the kitchen.
  • Adapt to additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Endure exposure to extreme temperatures; intense heat and freezing cold.

Requirements

  • Culinary knowledge and cooking experience required.
  • Culinary degree preferred, but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Experience delegating tasks and following up with Team Members.
  • Capacity to train and motivate others.
  • ServSAFE® certification preferred, but not required.
