About the position

The Lead Data Analyst and Manager of Public Sector Research at MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) is responsible for conducting quantitative research and analysis, developing data tools and databases related to various policy areas including economic, climate, energy, sustainability, and industrial/manufacturing policies. This role involves leading projects that integrate AI and advanced data tools into policymaking, building databases for the Global Clean Investment Monitor, and collaborating on original research initiatives. The position requires strong leadership in data architecture and the ability to communicate findings effectively to both internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative research and analysis on various policy areas.
  • Develop data tools and databases for the institution's research agenda.
  • Drive database building for the Global Clean Investment Monitor (GCIM).
  • Collaborate on updating and producing original research on the Clean Investment Monitor (CIM).
  • Lead projects related to integrating AI and advanced data tools into policymaking.
  • Suggest ways to deploy tools and advanced data science capabilities in team projects.
  • Pitch, design, and build data architecture, pipelines, and products that address climate policy and other data problems.
  • Support the publication of research papers and present findings to the team.
  • Prepare talking points and materials for public-facing research projects.
  • Engage with partner researchers to coordinate ongoing research projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred).
  • Five years' data science experience in government, public policy, research, or related field.
  • Ability to implement a long-term and technical plan of action with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working on climate change, sustainability, energy policy, and/or economic issues.
  • Strong entrepreneurial, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience advising and working with senior officers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent data science and coding skills.
  • Experience with social science research methods, including survey design and analysis.
