About the position

As a Lead Data and Analytics Engineer at AbbVie, you will play a pivotal role in the digital transformation of a leading biopharma company. This position is part of the Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team, where you will contribute to creating innovative solutions that positively impact patients and their communities. Your primary focus will be on the database administration function, which encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including database architecture, installation, and technical support for data products. You will be responsible for designing, securing, and maintaining the data structures that store critical data for corporate systems such as GDMS, GQMS, and Aegis. Additionally, you will oversee the backup and recovery processes for corporate data, ensuring data integrity and availability. In this role, you will also provide technical support for data extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) tools, which are essential for manipulating data from various database technologies. Your responsibilities will include performing database administration activities such as modifications, enhancements, expansions, and capacity planning. You will work closely with Systems Analysts and Senior Systems Analysts to provide technical support and assistance in the design and tuning of computer applications. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and supporting the database software, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. As part of the Data & Analytics team supporting the Procurement department, you will lead data and analytics initiatives aimed at driving digital transformation within Procurement. You will design and maintain data pipelines that ingest, transform, and prepare data from source systems like SAP, Sievo, and Provalido into business-aggregated data products. Your role will involve guiding less experienced DBAs, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, and enhancing logical database designs. You will also conduct performance monitoring, capacity planning, and lead the development of database standards and procedures. Daily interactions with clients and collaboration with other technical support organizations will be key aspects of your role, as you solve complex data integration challenges and design scalable data processing pipelines using distributed technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Procurement data and analytics initiatives.
  • Design and maintain data pipelines for data ingestion and transformation.
  • Provide guidance in database administration activities to less experienced DBAs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
  • Review, validate, and enhance logical database designs.
  • Define and implement physical databases.
  • Perform database administration activities such as modifications, enhancements, and expansions.
  • Conduct production database performance monitoring and capacity planning.
  • Install, test, and upgrade database releases and associated products.
  • Diagnose database-related issues, including outages and application performance.
  • Lead the development of database standards and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend new database software, utilities, and tools.
  • Interact daily with clients on divisional and enterprise-wide projects.
  • Solve challenging data integration problems using optimal ETL patterns and frameworks.
  • Design scalable data processing pipelines and ETL jobs using distributed technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6 years' experience; Master's Degree with 5 years' experience; PhD with 0 years' experience.
  • Experience as a DBA in the design, testing, implementation, and administration of management systems database with proficiency in SQL, Python, PowerBI, QlikView, Qliksense, and Dataiku.
  • Technical training including Database Administration, Performance and Tuning, and Backup and Recovery.
  • Experience with file structures, design, retrieval, and access methods using ETL tools such as Informatica.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and consultative skills, with sound judgment and the ability to work effectively with clients and IT management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Life sciences domain.
  • Expertise in creating Data Products on modern cloud-based data warehouse solutions like AWS Redshift, including data modeling, schema design, and performance optimization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Power Platform solutions such as PowerQuery, Power Automate, and Dataiku.
  • Experienced in SDLC processes and Agile delivery, using Jira to manage product delivery in iterative sprints.
  • Expertise in the SAP Source to Pay module and Procurement analytics.
