About the position

As a Lead Data Architect at Nuna, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of value-based healthcare through innovative data modeling and architecture. Your primary responsibility will be to design and evolve our data models, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and capable of supporting complex value-based care programs across the United States. This position requires a deep understanding of healthcare data standards, particularly HL7 FHIR, and the ability to translate complex reporting requirements into actionable data structures. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including analysts, engineers, and product managers, to drive the adoption and trust of Nuna's data and analytics among users. In this role, you will also be tasked with improving the performance and usability of our systems while managing a high-stakes production environment. This includes ensuring high availability and low latency, as well as implementing rigorous security measures to protect sensitive data. Your leadership will be crucial in influencing Nuna's product strategy and fostering a collaborative team environment where everyone contributes to the success of the organization. You will be expected to solve complex challenges related to data access and performance, ultimately building products that transform the dynamics of the healthcare industry into a patient-centered model of care. Responsibilities

  • Own the design and evolution of data models.
  • Improve performance, usability, and total cost to run systems.
  • Drive adoption and trust of Nuna's data and analytics among users.
  • Build products that change the dynamics and incentives of the healthcare industry.
  • Solve complex scale challenges surrounding data access and performance.
  • Form deep partnerships with a cross-functional team of analysts, engineers, and product managers.
  • Manage high stakes production environment, ensuring high availability/low latency and protecting sensitive data with rigorous security.
  • Play a significant leadership role to influence Nuna's product strategy.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing and building data models and warehouses.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare data and related standards, including HL7 FHIR.
  • Technical leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate engineers and cross-functional teams in a startup environment.
  • A deep understanding of star schemas and related data architectures.
  • Familiarity with database technologies including SQL, NoSQL, and data warehousing.
  • Experience with modern cloud-based, distributed data warehouse systems (Redshift, Snowflake, etc.).
  • Ability to write performant, idempotent data transformation code.
  • Experience optimizing queries and schemas.
  • Experience with backend development - schemas, APIs, infra and tooling, etc. - for data intensive applications.
  • Experience managing production services and designing smooth deployment processes, ideally in AWS.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and data governance principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience at a startup / tech company.
  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Sisense).
  • Python scripting/development.
  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks, such as Spark.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools like Airflow or Prefect.
  • An interest in cloud software systems.
