About the position

The Lead Data Engineer at Climate LLC is responsible for designing and implementing scalable architecture to store and process geospatial and remote sensing datasets. This role involves developing roadmaps for data pipelines, writing testing frameworks, coordinating resources, and mentoring junior team members. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders and vendors to drive the design and development of machine learning models and evaluate technologies for data processing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable architecture for geospatial and remote sensing datasets.
  • Develop roadmaps for the design of data pipelines and frameworks.
  • Write and implement testing frameworks for data and platform evaluation.
  • Coordinate allocation of resources and prioritize projects to meet business goals.
  • Drive the design and development of rapid prototypes for machine learning models.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies and platforms for data processing, access, and sharing.
  • Mentor junior team members in technical delivery of projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and vendors.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a closely-related field with 6 years of industry experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 8 years of progressive experience.
  • Experience in developing scalable data pipelines, workflows, and architectures.
  • Proficiency in modeling data from RDBMS and/or data warehouses.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases (NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with streaming technologies such as Spark.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining data pipelines using programming languages like Python, SQL, R, PySpark, Java, or C.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring team members on technical project delivery.
  • Proficiency in using Linux, GCP, AWS, and/or Azure.
  • Ability to identify and communicate data-driven insights.
  • 1 year of experience processing and creating analysis-ready data using remote sensing and geospatial datasets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multi-spectral satellite imagery and derived layers such as Sentinel-2.
  • Familiarity with geospatial platforms such as GEE, IBM PAIRS, Astraea, and/or Descarteslabs.
