About the position

As a Lead Data Engineer at Travelers, you will play a pivotal role in modernizing the analytics landscape by designing, building, and deploying data solutions that support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and business intelligence. You will collaborate with business partners to enhance design standards and development practices, ensuring that data is accessible and usable across the enterprise. Your expertise will guide the team in delivering high-quality, scalable solutions while educating end users on data products and the analytic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Agile resources in guiding team in prioritizing tasks, refining the product backlog, and delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that meet business objectives efficiently.
  • Incorporate assurance processes into data solutions.
  • Guide team members as they build complex data solutions, correct problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing/quality solutions.
  • Design complex data solutions, including incorporating new data sources and ensuring designs are consistent across projects and aligned to data strategies.
  • Define and build frameworks for data solutions that can be applied to multiple projects.
  • Perform analysis of complex sources to determine value and utilize your subject matter expertise to recommend data to include in analytical processes.
  • Incorporate core data management competencies including data governance, data security and data quality.
  • Collaborate and build consensus with leadership and diverse groups of stakeholders in defining, estimating, prioritizing and planning of projects.
  • Perform data and system analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of high complexity and correct as appropriate.
  • Define standards and frameworks for testing on data movement and transformation code and data components.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM related field or equivalent
  • Fifteen years of related experience
  • Lead and manage data engineering initiatives to drive scalable data solutions.
  • Design, and develop data pipelines to ingest, transform, and distribute data efficiently.
  • Build and manage data lakes with a strong emphasis on security and data governance best practices.
  • Extensive experience in cloud platforms, specifically AWS.
  • Experience with Databricks for big data processing and analytics.
  • Expertise in Snowflake for modern data warehousing and analytics.
  • Experience with ETL tools like AbInitio or Talend for data transformation and integration.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data manipulation, automation, and pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, managing and provisioning cloud resources.
  • Develop and maintain data governance frameworks, ensuring security policies and data integrity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional knowledge in infrastructure management and cybersecurity is a plus.
