About the position

The Lead Data Engineer at GAINSCO is responsible for driving the company's data strategy and optimizing data architecture for scalability and efficiency. This role involves leading cross-functional initiatives, architecting cloud-based solutions, and mentoring a team of data professionals to ensure robust data operations that support business intelligence and decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive data management strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Evaluate and enhance the organization's data architecture for scalability and performance.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to integrate complex data systems in alignment with business goals.
  • Architect and implement scalable cloud-based data solutions.
  • Oversee the migration of data systems to the cloud, ensuring smooth integration and risk management.
  • Leverage cutting-edge cloud technologies to enhance data capabilities.
  • Design and optimize ETL frameworks to automate data flows and ensure smooth integration across various systems.
  • Provide expertise in data transformations and oversee the development of maintainable ETL solutions.
  • Mentor team members on advanced ETL practices and technologies.
  • Partner with IT and business leaders to align data strategies with business needs.
  • Influence data governance policies to ensure security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Advocate for data-driven approaches to business challenges.
  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of innovation and learning.
  • Provide career development plans and professional growth opportunities.
  • Set high standards for technical expertise and professional conduct within the team.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in data engineering and integrate cutting-edge tools and techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, database administration, ETL processes, and cloud technologies.
  • Expertise in SQL, cloud services, data architecture, and database management.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Data Engineer, or other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
  • Experience with big data platforms and real-time data processing frameworks is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Asana, Azure DevOps, and ETL tools.
