About the position

Come Find your Spark at Quartz! We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Modeler to join our Healthcare Data Analytics Team. The Lead Data Modeler will design and implement scalable data models that drive business intelligence, analytics, and decision-making across our health insurance operations. This position will work cross-functionally with business leaders, application developers, and IT teams to design solutions to extract valuable insights from large datasets, optimize business processes, and enhance our ability to serve our customers and provider partners. The Lead Data Modeler will utilize the following skills on a regular basis: * Critical thinking skills and solution brainstorming for high value business problems * Effective communication skills for knowledge sharing, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration * Expert proficiency working in SQL, Python, Snowflake, and Git tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of Data Models.
  • Create and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient logical and physical data models that support business intelligence, reporting, and advanced analytics within the health insurance domain.
  • Build and maintain data transformation pipelines within the analytics environment of the enterprise data warehouse.
  • Ensure that existing data models are continuously optimized for performance, scalability, and integration with evolving business needs.
  • Develop data models that integrate complex healthcare data sources and ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Partner with technology teams to establish data solutions and architecture for large, complex initiatives.
  • Collaborate with business leaders, data analysts, and IT teams to gather and understand business requirements, translating them into actionable data models that support analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making.
  • Work closely with teams across the organization to identify data needs, define use cases, and ensure that data models effectively address business challenges and opportunities.
  • Mentor other staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Provide technical leadership and ensure the team adheres to data modeling standards, methodologies, and governance processes.
  • Ensure that data models adhere to the organization's data governance policies and comply with industry standards, particularly in the healthcare sector.
  • Develop and implement data quality processes to validate and cleanse data, ensuring high standards of accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues proactively, and ensure data is accessible and reliable for reporting and analysis.
  • Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure that data models comply with privacy and security regulations.
  • Advocate for secure data management practices and ensure that sensitive health information is properly protected in lines with healthcare regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, mathematics, or related discipline with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • OR Associate degree in computer science, information systems, data science, mathematics, or related discipline with 9+ years of relevant experience.
  • OR high school equivalency with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of data modeling and data warehousing/data mart development experience with Snowflake, SQL and Python, Git or similar version controls and code reviews.
  • Experience with ETL development importing data files and from source operational databases.
  • Experience in Healthcare and / or health insurance industry.
  • Experience in Kimball Modeling, normalization, and hybrid data modeling methods.
  • Professional certification in an analytic area (Mathematical Modeling, Data Analytics, Data Science, Actuarial Services, Accounting, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business leaders and engineers to focus on the highest impact opportunities.
  • Advanced proficiency and demonstrated skill with Power BI, SQL Developer, and other query tools (MedInsight, BusinessObjects, etc.).
  • Advanced proficiency and demonstrated skill with MS Excel.
  • Advance knowledge of healthcare claims payment systems, industry standard reimbursement methodologies (Medicare & Medicaid), and health insurance market rules and regulations.
  • Advanced medical insurance knowledge of codes and acronyms.
  • Ability to be inquisitive and creative in developing analytical tools and presentation formats.
  • Highly motivated to resolve issues on a timely basis and with an attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented business environment.
