About the position

Cox Communications is seeking a Lead Data Scientist for the Network Analytics Applications team. This role is pivotal in the architecture and development of analytics applications that support automated decision-making and process support for the Network Operations Center (NOC) and Network Technicians. The Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for designing and developing key decision-making analytics applications that integrate into both customer-facing and employee-facing platforms, setting the vision for the team's analytical applications and visualization toolsets.

Responsibilities

  • Identify or design repeatable patterns for implementing analytics application use cases.
  • Plan and document key logic paths, service architecture, and data stores for new use cases.
  • Review existing services for maintainability, scalability, and opportunities for complexity reduction.
  • Design with a bias towards observability, reusability, testability, and scale.
  • Design test plans with a preference for automation where possible.
  • Implement feedback from boundary partners and internal stakeholders in internal applications and reporting systems.
  • Develop analytics applications using industry best practices for design, development, and testing.
  • Make recommendations for tools, services, and ways of working.
  • Work in the AWS ecosystem to architect scalable solutions.
  • Design and execute quality unit testing strategies, end-to-end testing, and A/B testing approaches.
  • Own and maintain the release schedule.
  • Identify and recommend best-in-class developer platform tools to enable the analytics application team's ability to deliver high-quality analytics solutions.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and 6 years of related experience, OR MS degree and 2 years of related experience, OR Ph.D and 1 year of related experience in cloud infrastructure and platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, SQL, Docker, Java, etc.
  • 3 years of AWS experience in a data science, analytics, or analytics application design capacity.
  • Experience with analytics application design and development.
  • Good communication skills to convey advanced technical topics to non-technical business partners.
  • 3 years of experience with source code version control software, like Git or Bitbucket, and CICD pipelines like Jenkins.
  • Experience designing and implementing large-scale, high data volume or user volume solutions in cloud platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in computer science, engineering or closely related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with specific AWS Services like Lambda, Step function, CloudWatch, EventBridge, EC2, EMR, RedShift, SQS, RDS, IAM, API Gateway, or Kubernetes.
  • Experience within the telecommunications or cable industry.
  • Experience in automated test design and implementation.
  • Experience in data store selection for large-scale applications.
  • Experience with developer tools and automation of developer tooling.
  • Experience with the AWS Well Architected Framework.
