About the position

The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for spearheading data science initiatives that enhance business profitability, efficiency, and customer experience. This role involves developing advanced analytics infrastructure and leveraging data science as a competitive advantage. The Lead Data Scientist will manage large projects, mentor team members, and maintain a library of reusable algorithms, while collaborating across business units to drive data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize expertise in designing and developing algorithms and models to create business insights from large datasets.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage large and complex data science projects and teams, ensuring quality and prioritization of work.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members to enhance their technical competencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop trust and leverage business knowledge in solution approaches.
  • Seek new business opportunities to utilize data science for competitive advantage.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of data science practices by developing replicable solutions and best practices.

Requirements

  • PhD in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in a modern scripting language, preferably Python.
  • Experience with data visualization software, preferably Tableau.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in running queries against data, preferably with Google BigQuery or SQL.
  • Experience in prescriptive modeling techniques such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP.
