About the position

The Infrastructure Industries Global Industry Unit's (IGIU) at Oracle is dedicated to developing technology and solutions that enhance the quality of life for global citizens, particularly in the areas of Energy & Water and Construction & Engineering. The team is focused on creating a Generative AI platform that will revolutionize the infrastructure industries by making products smarter, more efficient, and user-friendly. As a Lead Data Scientist/ML Engineer, you will be at the forefront of this initiative, working within a diverse, cross-functional team that operates with a startup mindset while benefiting from the stability of a larger organization. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and deploying advanced models that will power Oracle's conversational AI product suite. You will collaborate closely with application product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and user experience designers to integrate machine learning capabilities into the product portfolio. The platform will be built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and will adhere to cloud-native principles, ensuring scalability and zero downtime. Your contributions will be crucial in enabling the rapid uptake of Generative AI capabilities across IGIU's offerings, ultimately enhancing the user experience and operational efficiency of the products. As a Lead Data Scientist/ML Engineer, you will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. You will be expected to stay updated on the latest advancements in machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and conversational AI, driving innovation and maintaining a competitive edge in the market. This position requires a strong sense of ownership, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and a passion for learning new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) models for conversational AI systems.
• Utilize vector databases and advanced indexing techniques for effective information retrieval.
• Fine-tune and optimize large language models such as Cohere for specific industry use cases.
• Implement and experiment with cutting-edge NLP, NLU, and NLG techniques to enhance conversational AI products.
• Collaborate with engineers to integrate machine learning models into production systems, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Conduct research to stay abreast of advancements in machine learning, NLP, and conversational AI.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members.

Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related experience.
• 6+ years of experience in data science, focusing on conversational AI solutions.
• Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency with machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, OCI) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of NLP fundamentals and experience with NLU/NLG techniques such as sentiment analysis and entity recognition.
• Preference for expertise in developing RAG models and working with vector databases.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a pragmatic approach to building scalable machine learning systems.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
