Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Lead Data Scientist at its facility located at 501 SW Jefferson Ave, Peoria, IL 61630. The Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for building tools, dashboards, and processes to enable end-to-end telemetry data quality monitoring. This includes finding the source of quality issues and working with process partners to resolve the problems at the source. The primary focus will be on the data quality evaluation of a very large set of diverse data from IoT connected assets, our integrated network of dealers, and enterprise data. The role involves analyzing the output of data quality rules and evaluating their impact, as well as conducting root cause analysis of data quality problems. The Lead Data Scientist will also utilize analytics and visualization methods to solve problems for Caterpillar's internal customers. This position requires the use of quantitative techniques to address issues, leveraging a depth of knowledge in quantitative analytic methods, data management, and associated digital technologies suitable for handling complex issues. Additionally, the Lead Data Scientist will design, develop, and maintain telemetry data quality dashboards and reports. They will provide analytics support to Connectivity Division Projects and consolidate the output of data quality problems into a workable Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) project. The role requires refining solutions to better fit complex situations, making timely decisions, and effectively communicating with all project stakeholders. The position may allow for remote work from a home office within a commutable distance from Caterpillar Inc.'s Peoria, IL office.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate data quality of diverse data sets from IoT connected assets and enterprise data.
  • Analyze output of data quality rules and assess their impact.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of data quality problems.
  • Utilize analytics and visualization methods to solve internal customer problems.
  • Design, develop, and maintain telemetry data quality dashboards and reports.
  • Provide analytics support to Connectivity Division Projects.
  • Consolidate data quality problems into a workable Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) project.
  • Refine solutions to fit complex situations and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in Aerospace Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Management Science, Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • 3 years of pre- or post-masters experience designing and implementing data processing and machine learning frameworks.
  • 3 years of experience performing data processing and working on complex analytics initiatives.
  • Experience creating data extracts.
  • Proficiency in Python, NoSQL, and relational databases such as Snowflake.
  • Experience with MySQL and dashboard/reporting data using BI software such as Tableau and MS Power BI.
