About the position

The primary mission of the Lead Data Scientist role is to help our business evolve into an insights-driven organization. The position sits in our Analytics and Data Science team, which aims to disrupt our industry with emerging technologies and data science solutions that drive sustainable competitive advantage for Maymont Homes. The Lead Data Scientist will provide critical analytics to the business, develop deployable machine learning models to provide insights and recommendations to the business to improve internal operations, to understand customers, to provide smarter products and services, to create additional revenue, and to drive decision making. This role will help lay the enterprise-ready foundation for data science across Maymont Homes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business problems and opportunities for data science and machine learning.
• Design and execute end-to-end data science projects, from problem definition to actionable insights.
• Utilize statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to develop predictive models and data-driven solutions.
• Explore and use advances in AutoML and other technologies to expedite model development.
• Work with IT operations to build and maintain a robust machine learning infrastructure.
• Generate hypotheses, design experiments, analyze results, and communicate findings effectively.
• Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and quality, implementing data governance best practices.
• Extract meaningful insights from large datasets and communicate findings through visualizations and reports.
• Provide guidance and expertise in statistical and analytical techniques to team members.
• Stay updated with advancements in data science and apply them to improve capabilities.
• Engage with external partners for innovation and collaboration on projects.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related quantitative field is required.
• At least 7 years of experience as a Data Scientist/Analyst with a proven track record of leading successful projects.
• Strong analytical skills with expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques.
• Experience with tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and PowerBI.
• Proven experience in leading data science projects end-to-end and mentoring junior team members.
• Understanding of the finance or real estate industry and ability to translate business problems into data-driven solutions.
• Ability to think critically and creatively apply analytical techniques to solve complex challenges.
• Familiarity with data management principles and best practices, including data quality and privacy.
• Willingness to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience in the finance industry is highly desirable.
• Experience in home building or real estate industry is a plus.
• Proficiency in building data pipelines for ML/NLP models.
• Strong adherence to software engineering principles.
• Proficiency in using Jupyter Notebooks and Python virtual environments.
• Proficiency in machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Spark.
• Proficiency in cloud technologies and their application to data science.
• Proficiency using AWS RedShift and SageMaker.
