About the position

Discover Financial Services is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join our team in Riverwoods, IL. In this role, you will be responsible for executing analytical initiatives that solve business problems through advanced analytics techniques such as segmentation, optimization, and machine learning. You will work closely with management to create reports and dashboards that monitor performance metrics and provide actionable insights. Your expertise will be crucial in managing risk and addressing customer-impacting issues in day-to-day operations. As a Lead Data Scientist, you will lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics projects, including customer segmentation and prescriptive analytics. You will serve as a subject matter expert in statistical analysis, experimental design, and financial impact analysis. Collaboration with cross-functional partners is essential to understand their business needs and to conduct end-to-end analyses that include data gathering, analysis, and presentation of findings. You will be responsible for delivering effective presentations to various levels of leadership, creating visual displays of quantitative information, and establishing performance tracking systems. Your role will also involve identifying opportunities for improvement, proposing and designing tests to enhance strategies, and automating reports and dashboards to meet analytical needs. Continuous improvement of your technical and leadership skills through training and development is expected in this dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with management to execute analytical initiatives.
  • Solve business problems using segmentation, optimization, advanced analytics, and machine learning.
  • Create reports and dashboards to monitor performance metrics and provide insights.
  • Manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues to management.
  • Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics projects.
  • Operate as a subject matter expert on statistical analysis and modeling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand business needs and complete analyses.
  • Deliver presentations of findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Establish and maintain performance tracking systems and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and automate reports and dashboards to provide insights at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in Credit Risk, Fraud Risk, Marketing Analytics, Optimization, Operations Analytics, or related fields.
  • Master's degree in Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field (preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in relevant analytics or data science roles (preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and recommendations.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
