About the position

The Lead Database Administrator at Clarivate Analytics is responsible for developing, administering, and supporting both hosted and on-premises database environments. This role requires extensive experience in managing MSSQL databases, performance tuning, and capacity planning, while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The position offers an opportunity to engage with a variety of technologies and contribute to the overall strategy for the Enterprise Solutions SQL Server estate.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, education, and production usage.
  • Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases.
  • Formulate and execute remediation plans for existing Database deployments.
  • Assist in troubleshooting efforts related to data integrity or database performance issues.
  • Performs ongoing tuning of the database instances.
  • Install new versions of MSSQL and its tools.
  • Plans and implements backup and recovery of the MSSQL database.
  • Advise development teams on database server deployment and configuration.
  • Implements and enforces security for all SQL Databases.
  • Performs database re-organizations to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime.
  • Support service delivery and development teams by refreshing non-production database environments.
  • Test patches for compatibility with the database environment.
  • Enforces and maintains database constraints for integrity.
  • Administers all database objects, including tables, indexes, and procedures.
  • Assists with impact analysis of changes made to database objects.
  • Monitor Database alerts and respond to issues and errors.
  • Assess, develop, and improve database High Availability/Disaster Recovery strategy.
  • Implement maintenance plans and monitoring for optimal database performance.
  • Contribute to the overall strategy for the Enterprise Solutions SQL Server estate.
  • Support developers to ensure efficient database queries.
  • Assist with new projects to define the best technologies and approaches from a DBA perspective.
  • Resolve day-to-day incidents with database assets.

Requirements

  • 8 years minimum of experience managing MSSQL and Windows operating systems.
  • 8 years of experience in physical and logical MSSQL Server and database design.
  • 8 years of experience with strong SQL DB architecture understanding.
  • 8 years of experience in database performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • 8 years of experience with SQL Administration and MSSQL roles and features.
  • 7 years of experience in cloud-based database services, such as AWS RDS and MS Azure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to perform MSSQL and operating system performance monitoring.
  • Experience with other DB engines like Oracle Server, MySQL, and Postgres.
  • Good knowledge of operating systems.
  • Experience working in AWS or Azure.
  • Experience/Understanding with DevOps and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Data Dog and Pager Duty.
  • Excellent knowledge of MSSQL backup and recovery scenarios.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft tools: SSMS, SSRS, SSIS.
  • Knowledge in database migration and upgrades.
  • Excellent knowledge of business continuity and data integrity.
