About the position

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is seeking a Lead Database Administrator to oversee the maintenance and management of all Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) within the organization. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient operation of databases that support the transit services provided to approximately 150,000-200,000 customers on a typical weekday. The Lead Database Administrator will supervise the allocation of disk resources for all database users and monitor the condition of databases, files, and disks, performing or overseeing maintenance as necessary. This position is not only technical but also involves promoting a safe and secure atmosphere, adhering to all safety and security rules, and performing other related duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the database systems are running optimally and securely, which is essential for the RTA's mission of connecting the community through reliable transportation services. The Lead Database Administrator will work predominantly in an office environment, requiring a focus on detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. The role demands a high level of communication skills, both verbal and written, to interpret policies, procedures, and data effectively. The position also requires the ability to analyze information and prepare written materials, ensuring that all database-related documentation is accurate and up-to-date. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Lead Database Administrator will be expected to engage in continuous learning and development to stay current with industry trends and advancements in database management technologies. This role is pivotal in supporting the RTA's operational goals and enhancing the overall efficiency of its services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the maintenance of all Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS).
  • Oversee the allocation of disk resources for all database users.
  • Monitor the condition of databases, files, and disks.
  • Perform or oversee maintenance as necessary on database systems.
  • Promote a safe and secure atmosphere by following all safety and security rules.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or completion of a computer programming school curriculum.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Six (6) years of direct experience with RDBMS, including SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Experience programming with Oracle is a plus.
