About the position

The Lead Database Engineer will be a key member of the Aurora PostgreSQL Database team at DTCC, responsible for managing distributed databases, automation, and business intelligence technologies. This role involves developing standards and procedures for AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability and performance, and collaborating with support teams to resolve database issues. The position also emphasizes continuous improvement in database automation processes and contributes to cloud strategy discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop standards and procedures for AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases in the Cloud.
  • Manage all aspects of database administration including lifecycle management, upgrades, and patching.
  • Provide production DBA on-call support on a rotation basis.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize PostgreSQL databases for high availability, performance, and security.
  • Operate in an agile software delivery environment focused on AWS Aurora PostgreSQL implementation.
  • Collaborate with support teams to resolve database issues.
  • Implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity architecture for database implementations.
  • Align risk and control processes into daily responsibilities to mitigate risks.
  • Contribute to cloud strategy discussions and decisions on cloud data solutions.
  • Research, design, document, and implement new database solutions independently.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6-8 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL version 12 and above.
  • Solid understanding of PostgreSQL database architecture.
  • Experience in provisioning Aurora PostgreSQL regional and global clusters.
  • User administration including audit and performance tuning using QPM.
  • Experience with database upgrades and patching.
  • Experience implementing monitoring solutions using AWS metrics and custom monitoring for Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of operating systems (Unix/Linux).
  • Solid understanding of AWS Cloud architecture.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Oracle Database is a plus.
  • Experience automating database provisioning in AWS Cloud environment is nice to have.
