About the position

The Lead DBA, MySQL position at BCM One is a critical role focused on the architecture, implementation, and management of enterprise-wide databases. The successful candidate will drive the data strategy, ensuring the security, integrity, and performance of MySQL databases while collaborating with software development and engineering teams. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the organization by optimizing database operations and addressing complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement database schemas and partitioning schemes, collaborating with the development team to integrate them into applications.
  • Lead efforts to ensure database security, integrity, and performance through effective management and proactive measures.
  • Develop and optimize MySQL queries, implementing clustering, replication, and partitioning to enhance system reliability.
  • Review performance metrics and address any issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  • Participate actively in daily scrums and sprint planning, contributing expertise to drive projects forward.
  • Swiftly respond to and resolve critical database issues.
  • Handle ticket escalations from support teams, providing expert guidance and solutions to complex problems.
  • Perform database backups and restorations as needed, ensuring efficient and reliable data recovery processes.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in a data and engineering related position.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a DBA, with deep expertise in MySQL and relational database modeling.
  • Proficiency in Linux (moving to Ubuntu) and experience in mission-critical environments requiring 24/7 uptime.
  • Familiarity with RedHat, Postgres, and Oracle is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining DEV, QA, PROD, and Disaster Recovery environments.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as AWS or OpenStack.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to coach and mentor team members and collaborate across departments.
  • Experience in an agile environment and/or telecommunications is a plus.
