About the position

The Development Lifecycle Engineer at Canonical will lead efforts to enhance Ubuntu's capabilities for mission-critical environments, such as automotive and aerospace. This role focuses on bridging open source engineering processes with regulatory compliance and certification requirements, aiming to improve delivery quality, security, and developer experience. The engineer will work closely with various stakeholders to implement continuous improvement processes and establish engineering quality standards, while also representing Canonical in external engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the vision and strategy for Engineering Excellence
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical in front of customers, partners, and consortia
  • Coordinate, guide, and positively influence Canonical engineering ways of working
  • Develop skills through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical leadership
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices
  • Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values
  • Work from home with international travel twice a year, up to two weeks at a time, for company events

Requirements

  • Strong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment
  • Proven track record in developing and growing people and teams
  • Experience leading successful compliance and certification efforts
  • Knowledge or certification in industry standards such as ISO IEC 9001, 25010, and 15504 / SPICE
  • Experience working on successful open source projects with demonstrated engineering processes

  • Background as a software developer
  • Experience in establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
