Lead Diesel Technician

About the position

The position involves diagnosing malfunctions and performing repairs on medium and heavy-duty trucks within a fleet environment. The role requires adherence to safety and compliance standards while ensuring high-quality maintenance and repair services. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and efficient work area, reporting unsafe conditions, and performing road calls as needed.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs including adjustments and tests on various vehicle systems.
• Arranges for and obtains appropriate inspections and approvals for major repairs before vehicle release.
• Maintains a safe, clean, productive, and efficient work area in compliance with relevant guidelines.
• Identifies and reports additional maintenance and repairs needed during assigned tasks.
• Records time spent, parts used, and repairs conducted on appropriate forms.
• Advises Maintenance Supervisor of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices.
• Performs road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
• Exhibits ethical best practices and personal integrity, sharing concerns about inappropriate behavior.

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
• One to two years of supervisory experience or training.
• Diagnostic, electrical, and AC skills are essential.
• Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required.
• Previous fleet experience with diesel and gasoline systems is necessary.
• Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
• Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Valid applicable state license (CDL preferred).

Nice-to-haves
