About the position

The Lead Diesel Technician at National Express is responsible for diagnosing malfunctions and performing repairs on various vehicle systems, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role involves maintaining a clean and efficient work environment, conducting inspections, and advising on maintenance needs. The technician will also perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as necessary, while upholding the company's ethical standards and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs including steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, and engines.
  • Arranges for and obtains appropriate inspections and approval of all major repairs before vehicle release.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, productive, and efficient work area in compliance with relevant guidelines.
  • Identifies and reports additional maintenance and repairs needed during assigned tasks.
  • Records time spent, parts used, and repairs conducted on appropriate forms.
  • Advises Maintenance Supervisor of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices.
  • Performs road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
  • Exhibits ethical best practices and personal integrity, sharing concerns about suspicious behavior.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years Med/Hvy truck fleet mechanic repair experience plus one to two years supervisory experience or training.
  • Diagnostic, electrical, and AC skills are a must.
  • Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required.
  • Previous fleet experience and familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
  • Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
  • Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Valid applicable state license (CDL preferred).
  • ASE Certification desirable but not required.
