The Lead Dietetic Technician at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) plays a crucial role in nutrition care services, overseeing the preparation and delivery of nutritional support for patients. This position involves guiding a team of dietetic technicians, ensuring adherence to food safety standards, and implementing nutritional interventions under the supervision of registered dietitians. The role emphasizes collaboration within a diverse healthcare team to enhance pediatric care and support the hospital's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Completes nutrition assessments of patients based on screening and documentation guidelines.
  • Implements and monitors nutritional interventions assigned by the RDN.
  • Estimates nutritional intakes and calculates calorie counts as requested.
  • Identifies patients needing in-depth assessment and transfers care appropriately.
  • Instructs patients and families on restricted diets or special formulas.
  • Inputs data from outpatient diet records for analysis by outpatient dietitian.
  • Prepares and delivers patient enteral feeding orders accurately and timely.
  • Maintains human milk inventory and assists with human milk shipment and disposal.
  • Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains productivity and documentation of activities.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nutrition or related program required.
  • At least six months of prior experience related to formula and human milk preparation required.
  • At least six months of prior experience in nutrition/lactation education required.
  • At least six months of prior experience in food services required.
  • Dietetic Technician-Registered (DTR) certification required within 9 months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or related program preferred.
  • At least six months of experience in a hospital setting or WIC program preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of nutrient analysis and spreadsheet software preferred.
  • Serv Safe Certification preferred.
  • International Board Certification Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) preferred.
