About the position

The Lead Editor at the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) is responsible for producing high-quality printed and digital content aimed at engaging donors, prospective donors, and individuals affected by Parkinson's disease. This role involves overseeing the editorial strategy, collaborating with various stakeholders, and ensuring that all content aligns with MJFF's mission and fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and conceptualize, write, edit, and produce MJFF's biannual newsletters and other key printed publications.
  • Collaborate with medical communications to provide editorial oversight for educational guides and white papers.
  • Work with marketing to develop content for audience development and engagement.
  • Write and edit proposals, donor reports, promotional materials, and website copy.
  • Create engaging blog content, community profiles, and research updates.
  • Mentor staff and freelance writers, providing feedback on their contributions.
  • Maintain and govern MJFF's editorial style guide.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in strategic communications within non-profits or mission-based organizations.
  • Experience with all stages of print publication from concept to delivery.
  • Track record of aligning print and digital content strategy.
  • Experience in science communications or strong interest in biology and neuroscience.
  • Superior writing and strategic messaging experience in a fundraising setting.
  • Strong editing skills with attention to detail and impeccable grammar.
  • Top-notch project management skills with proactive development of work plans.
  • Good eye for design and experience in art-directing messaging goals.
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal and external partners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in biomedical research or public health communications.
  • Familiarity with digital content strategies and audience engagement techniques.
