About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer for Data Centers at Black & Veatch will function as a technical specialist or project lead, overseeing the delivery of electrical engineering design and construction projects for data centers. This role involves providing subject matter expertise, technical guidance, and building client relationships while working within a collaborative team environment. The position promotes a hybrid work model, allowing for flexibility between in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of design-only, design-build, and construction-only projects in Electrical Engineering for Data Centers.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Data Center design.
  • Offer technical guidance on client standards and expectations to engineering and technician staff.
  • Build business relationships with clients to understand their needs and drivers.
  • Coordinate with local electrical utilities on project technical needs.
  • Review supplier submittals and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Conduct field surveys and develop summary reports on existing facilities.
  • Prepare and review technical engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with standards and customer requirements.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and staffing for assigned projects.
  • Mentor and supervise junior-level engineers and designers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience in Data Centers or Data Center Facility Design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit/BIM and 3D modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems.
  • Experience utilizing BIM 360, Navisworks, and Revit work sets.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
