About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer for Data Centers at Black & Veatch will function as a technical specialist or project lead, overseeing the delivery of electrical engineering projects for data centers. This role involves providing subject matter expertise, technical guidance, and building client relationships while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and quality requirements. The position promotes a hybrid work environment, allowing for flexibility between in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of design-only, design-build, and construction-only projects in Electrical Engineering for Data Centers.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Data Center design.
  • Offer technical guidance on client standards and expectations to engineering and technician staff.
  • Build business relationships with clients to understand their needs and drivers.
  • Coordinate with local electrical utilities on project technical needs.
  • Review supplier submittals and ensure compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Conduct field surveys and develop summary reports on existing facilities.
  • Prepare and review technical engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with standards and customer requirements.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and staffing.
  • Mentor and supervise junior-level engineers and designers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit/BIM.
  • Experience in Data Centers and/or Data Center Facility Design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
  • Sound professional communication skills for client interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems.
  • Experience utilizing BIM 360, Navisworks, and Revit work sets.
  • Demonstrated understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Strong leadership skills with a desire to train and develop early career professionals.
