About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer position at Kiewit involves overseeing electrical engineering design for various industrial projects, including advanced technology facilities and water treatment plants. The role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise in electrical engineering, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical engineering deliverables including one-lines, layout, design schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment data sheets.
  • Perform complex calculations and apply standards correctly without supervision.
  • Take a leadership role when working with peers, running projects and leading others.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners.
  • Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals.
  • Review electrical requirements for new facilities and project plans.
  • Lead quality checks of the design and engineering of mid to major sized projects to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform ETP analysis and simulation, system modeling, protection coordination, reliability studies, load flow studies, and grounding integrity.
  • Utilize SmartPlant for balance of plant electrical systems design.
  • Mentor, train, and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards and applicable engineering codes.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for the discipline.
  • Support RFP, Pre-Feed, FEED, D/B, and EPC projects for electrical designs across multiple markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and EIT license is required.
  • Minimum of 12+ years' experience performing electrical engineering design for industrial facilities.
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis Software (or similar tool) for simulation/analysis is required.
  • Able to serve as a technical resource, lead a project, and be a point of contact for external or internal customers.
  • Experience working with a project team as the Engineering Discipline lead and coordinate with other stakeholders in engineering, procurement, and construction.
  • Experience with SmartPlant or similar electrical/plant software for designing electrical systems in an industrial facility.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to convey ideas succinctly.

Nice-to-haves

  • PE preferred, or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Experience in field construction or startup and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable.
  • Experience with power system studies, relay coordination, short circuit load flow, protection, relay coordination, arc flash, low to medium power preferred.
