About the position

As a Lead Electrical Engineer at Kiewit OGC Engineering, you will be part of an innovative team that supports various projects across the company. This role involves collaborating with Kiewit's module fabrication and construction teams to deliver construction-focused engineering solutions that are safe, cost-effective, and innovative. Your work will contribute to achieving client expectations and furthering Kiewit's legacy of excellence in the oil, gas, and chemical markets. Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full-service engineering firm with a rich history of 130 years in construction experience. Our team of engineers and design professionals spans all major engineering disciplines, focusing on LNG, midstream, refining, and petrochemical markets. The Lead Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are designed with constructability and safety in mind from the earliest phases, leading to on-time and on-budget project delivery. This position is based out of our Energy Corridor office in Houston, TX, with opportunities for flexible work arrangements. You will be responsible for performing complex calculations, reviewing engineering and design documents, leading projects, and mentoring less experienced engineers. Your analytical skills will be essential in making informed decisions and improving design processes to lower costs while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision.
  • Reviews the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project.
  • Possesses critical analytical skills and is adept at utilizing good decision-making tools; high level of data analysis skills.
  • Regularly performs reviews of vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met.
  • Leads mid to large-size projects or proposals.
  • Develops and leads others in ways of improving the design and lowering costs.
  • Considers multiple solutions and makes good decisions based on good data analysis.
  • Manages several different assignments simultaneously.
  • Applies techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results.
  • Utilizes industry and company standards to design and engineer effectively.
  • Serves as a resource to less experienced engineers.
  • Reviews application of standards for correct interpretations (including NEC).
  • Leads projects in how to interpret and apply codes and standards.
  • Leads team to identify changes in the scope of work during mid to large-sized projects.
  • Produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Recognizes the importance of customer needs.
  • Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize personal productivity.
  • Leads quality checks of the design and engineering of a mid to major-sized project to ensure accuracy.
  • Establishes credibility in terms of technical competency and team leading ability.
  • Prioritizes time to meet team commitments and individual work requirements.
  • Prepares engineering deliverables consisting of one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, hazardous area classification drawings, electrical power studies (ETAP), etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering minimum required.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • 8-20 years minimum relevant experience in the refining and petrochemical industry.
  • Self-directs work with limited supervision.
  • Provides guidance, leadership, and training to less experienced engineers.
  • Leads small teams to complete tasks/design on projects.
  • Works with project teams as a representative and coordinates work within the discipline department.
  • Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.
  • Develops and presents work in well-constructed written and verbal presentations, clearly conveying messages and ideas.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors and members of the immediate department.
  • Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems.
  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software desired.
  • Knowledgeable in power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination preferred.
