About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer - Power Generation at Black & Veatch will serve as a Technical Specialist or lead role, providing guidance and expertise on Conventional Power Generation Projects. This position involves developing electrical drawing deliverables, performing complex engineering calculations, and managing project budgets and schedules. The role emphasizes collaboration with internal and external teams, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Technical Specialist or lead role providing guidance and expertise over Conventional Power Generation Projects and Teams
  • Develop electrical drawing deliverables including one line and three line diagrams, electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Perform complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, Arc flash analysis, protective relay settings, and battery and charger sizing
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
  • Create man hour budgets and schedules for projects and proposals
  • Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients, and provide support during construction
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables and manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects and communicate these to project team members
  • Recognized as a technical specialist with in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or technical aspects of the industry

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Experience and expertise in utility scale conventional power generation project design
  • Previous engineering consulting design experience in LV/MV Power
  • Familiarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline

Nice-to-haves

  • Quality Assurance / Quality Check (QA/QC) and project lead experience
  • Experience with electrical equipment including MV and LV switchgear, transformers, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverters, batteries, and cables
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to drive for results and set priorities
  • Experience in planning, delegation, and conflict management
