About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer role at Black & Veatch focuses on providing technical expertise and guidance for Conventional Power Generation projects. This position involves developing electrical drawing deliverables, performing complex engineering calculations, and managing project budgets and schedules. The role is hybrid, allowing for a balance between remote work and on-site responsibilities, and emphasizes collaboration with clients and project teams to deliver innovative energy solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Technical Specialist or lead role providing guidance and expertise over Conventional Power Generation Projects and Teams
  • Develop electrical drawing deliverables including one line and three line diagrams, electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Conduct complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, Arc flash analysis, protective relay settings, and battery and charger sizing
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
  • Create man hour budgets and schedules for projects and proposals
  • Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients, and provide support during construction
  • Extensively use Microsoft Office, electrical engineering software (ETAP), and CAD tools (AutoCAD) to manipulate engineering drawing files

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Design and project lead experience in utility scale conventional power generation project design
  • Previous engineering consulting design experience in LV/MV Power
  • Familiarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Experience with electrical equipment including MV and LV switchgear, transformers, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverters, and various types of cables
