About the position

The Technical Specialist role at Black & Veatch involves providing expertise in Conventional Power Generation Projects, focusing on electrical engineering deliverables and project coordination. The position emphasizes continuous learning, quality improvement, and client engagement, while allowing for personal growth and exploration of innovative solutions in a flexible work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Technical Specialist or lead role providing guidance and expertise over Conventional Power Generation Projects and Teams
  • Develop electrical drawing deliverables including one line and three line diagrams, electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Conduct complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, Arc flash analysis, protective relay settings, and battery and charger sizing
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
  • Create man hour budgets and schedules for projects and proposals
  • Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients, and provide support during construction
  • Extensively use Microsoft Office business systems, electrical engineering software, and Computer Aided Drafting Tools to view and manipulate engineering drawing files
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables and perform complex research for equipment and materials selection
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects and communicate these to project team members
  • Recognized as a technical specialist with in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or technical aspects of an industry
  • Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and corrective actions required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Experience and expertise in utility scale conventional power generation project design
  • Previous engineering consulting design experience in LV/MV Power
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Check (QA/QC) and project lead experience
  • Familiarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline
