About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading the delivery of multidisciplinary Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, focusing on electrical design aspects. This role involves overseeing projects from feasibility through construction, ensuring high-quality technical and interpersonal skills are applied in engineering, business development, and project management. The position offers an opportunity to work with a dynamic team in the renewable energy sector, promoting continual employee growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer utility-scale PV solar systems, energy storage, and microgrid projects between 5MW and 100MW+ in size.
  • Provide technical expertise and support in assisting utilities in planning for integrating renewable energy resources.
  • Maintain a vast knowledge of existing and emerging technologies in planning the future grid.
  • Develop engineering construction documents and detailed equipment specifications.
  • Contribute to developing internal solar engineering standards, toolsets, and work processes continually.
  • Coordinate project design assignments and design teams locally and with other office locations.
  • Travel to project sites occasionally to gather site-specific data, as required.
  • Contribute to or write technical papers and reports.
  • Conduct system studies such as arc flash, load flow, short circuit, overcurrent coordination, ampacity, and grounding studies.
  • Coordinate communication and provide status updates to stakeholders as required.
  • Assure quality in design work by developing and following internal QA/QC methods.
  • Provide mentorship and training to new and junior engineering personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with Power Systems Focus.
  • 5+ years' experience designing utility-scale solar PV systems and/or energy storage systems.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) Licensure or the ability to get one within a reasonable time.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, PVsyst, SKM, ETAP, SEL Relays.
  • Experience with industry-standard design codes such as NEC, International Building Codes, International Fire Codes, and other standards relevant to the industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
  • Extremely organized and meticulous with details.
  • Ability to work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • NABCEP certification or willingness to get one.
