About the position

In this role, you will have the opportunity to function as a technical lead design engineer managing, leading, and designing a variety of solar utility scale projects and teams. You will be responsible for developing electrical design deliverables for solar (PV) panels, which includes creating one line drawings and collection system layouts, power cable sizing and cable schedules, equipment sizing, and more. This position requires active participation in management, project scheduling, and work resource planning meetings, as well as interfacing directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. You will also be responsible for quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of projects and mentoring junior engineers. This is a hybrid opportunity, requiring three days in the office and two days remotely, and candidates located or willing to relocate near any Black & Veatch U.S. Regional Office may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a technical lead design engineer managing and leading solar utility scale projects.
  • Develop electrical design deliverables for solar (PV) panels.
  • Create one line drawings and collection system layouts, power cable sizing, and cable schedules.
  • Participate in management, project scheduling, and work resource planning meetings.
  • Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Perform QA/QC on projects and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience in electrical engineering.
  • Experience with specifying and procuring electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Experience with electrical equipment such as MV and LV switchgear, transformers, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverters, and cables.
  • Experience with engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit analysis, Arc Flash analysis, and grounding analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed 1-2 utility scale solar projects.
  • 2 years of solar experience specifically.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of power generation.
