About the position
The Lead Electrical Engineer - Substation Design at Black & Veatch is a hybrid role focused on leading the design of electrical substations, including distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level voltage classes. The position involves developing electrical design deliverables, participating in project management, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring compliance with quality standards. This role is integral to supporting the company's commitment to innovative energy solutions and sustainable infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Function as a technical lead substation design engineer.
- Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design and/or physical design.
- Participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- QA/QC projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables.
- Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
- Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements.
Nice-to-haves
- Substation Design experience - Physical and/or Protection & Controls.
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control of substation design projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License or EIT in pursuit of obtaining PE License.
- Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
