About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer for Underground Transmission Design at Black & Veatch will serve as a technical lead on underground transmission line projects, focusing on design and implementation, particularly with trenchless installation methods. This role involves direct client interaction, project management, and mentoring junior engineers, all while working in a hybrid environment that balances office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a technical lead engineer on underground transmission line projects.
  • Perform underground transmission line design, ideally with experience of trenchless installation methods.
  • Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.
  • Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct QA/QC on projects and mentor junior engineers.
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables and perform complex research for equipment/materials selection.
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
  • Assist with identifying key client interests and drivers on less complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • PE License preferred.
  • Experience in underground utility design methods and standards.
  • High voltage design experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control experience in transmission design projects.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
