About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer for Water/Wastewater at Black & Veatch is responsible for leading electrical design projects, providing technical guidance, and serving as a technical expert in electrical power distribution and plant electrical systems. This role involves supporting business development, building client relationships, and overseeing various project-related tasks including energy optimization studies and construction inspections. The position is hybrid, allowing for a flexible work environment while focusing on innovative solutions in the water industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design for water/wastewater projects.
  • Provide technical guidance on client standards and expectations to engineering and technician staff.
  • Serve as a technical expert in electrical power distribution and miscellaneous plant electrical systems.
  • Support business development related to enhanced electrical services.
  • Build business relationships with clients to understand their needs and drivers.
  • Conduct studies on energy optimization, power system coordination, and electrical reliability analysis.
  • Inspect construction and resolve electrical construction issues.
  • Coordinate with local electrical utilities on project technical needs.
  • Review supplier submittals.
  • Act as a liaison between local design teams, clients, and remote design teams for instrumentation and control design.
  • Oversee startup and testing of major electrical equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience in electrical design, planning, and construction services.
  • Professional Engineer's license in KS, MO, or another US jurisdiction preferred.
  • Experience in medium and low voltage power distribution equipment, including variable frequency drives and standby diesel generators.
  • Understanding of PLC hardware and software setup, network configuration, HMI, SCADA system, instrumentation, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Experience in a client-facing/business development role.
  • Power system analysis experience in SKM, ETAP, or other analysis software is a plus.
