About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will oversee a team working on complex electrical engineering projects, particularly in the nuclear power sector. This role involves troubleshooting, investigating, and resolving a variety of electrical engineering issues while ensuring successful project deliverables that meet technical, quality, and financial expectations. The position requires coordination with multiple disciplines and includes responsibilities such as mentoring team members, interfacing with clients, and developing project scopes and proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts performed by group members to ensure successful completion of electrical engineering project deliverables.
  • Initiate and convey scope of work to group members.
  • Define deliverables such as calculations, specifications, and drawings.
  • Review status and track progress of group members to maintain project scope and budget.
  • Conduct routine status meetings and submit progress reports.
  • Track and resolve open items and emergent project issues.
  • Coordinate completion of project deliverables.
  • Lead the team for the detailed design phases of electrical engineering work.
  • Develop project scope, cost estimates, and schedules for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
  • Develop proposals for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
  • Provide technical oversight and supervision for all electrical engineering activities.
  • Prepare engineering design change packages to install, replace, or upgrade existing plant equipment.
  • Perform engineering calculations in support of design change packages.
  • Create equipment procurement specifications and manage the bid review evaluation process.
  • Interface with clients to validate scope and ensure satisfaction.
  • Mentor and guide the development of the group.
  • Identify and follow up on client needs that may result in strategic opportunities.
  • Leverage client relationships to develop follow-on work from existing clients.
  • Prepare and coordinate multi-discipline proposals.

Requirements

  • A BSEE degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Ten or more years' experience in the design of electrical engineering systems for nuclear power plants.
  • Three or more years experience in leading an engineering design group through all phases of a project design.
  • Experience in the selection of equipment, materials, and preparation of engineering design change packages.
  • Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
  • Experience with electrical system design including low and medium voltage distribution systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Capable of being badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station.
  • PE Licensure is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with nuclear power plant operations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for nuclear facilities.
