About the position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will oversee electrical engineering efforts for large-scale capital projects in the aluminum industry, ensuring adherence to quality, cost, and schedule targets. This role involves leading project teams, managing electrical design and execution, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements while driving engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering design efforts for aluminum industry projects, including crushing, grinding, material handling, and refining processes.
  • Oversee project teams, managing the work of engineers, designers, and drafters, and acting as the lead engineer.
  • Develop and implement electrical engineering strategies, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and review electrical design calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Manage and oversee the development of electrical layouts, ensuring optimal design efficiency and compliance with industry codes and standards.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure all electrical engineering deliverables are executed as per project requirements.
  • Ensure effective scope definition, progress control, and change management processes across multiple project phases.
  • Provide technical expertise in procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, ensuring smooth project execution.
  • Monitor project progress and resolve any electrical engineering issues or problems that arise, providing solutions based on industry best practices.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables meet Worley's high standards, as well as customer and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead and mentor junior electrical engineers, contributing to their development and growth.
  • Participate in project reviews, client meetings, and site inspections, providing support and guidance as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of electrical engineering experience, with experience in aluminum or similar heavy industries.
  • Extensive experience in both greenfield and brownfield EPC/EPCM projects within the aluminum industry.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design, layout engineering, and material handling systems specific to industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with mechanical codes and standards applicable to the aluminum industry (ASME, ASTM, etc.).
  • Experience using 3D mechanical design software (e.g., Aveva E3D, Smart 3D) and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring quality.
  • Electrical Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina or the ability to fast-track obtaining this certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
