About the position

The Lead Electrical/I&C Engineer at HDR will play a crucial role in the Power program, focusing on the execution of electrical engineering and design deliverables for various power generating facilities, including hydro, battery storage, and fossil power generation. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership, as the engineer will be responsible for preparing detailed design packages, performing engineering calculations, and coordinating with other disciplines to ensure successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work scopes and proposals
  • Prepare detailed design packages for new and modifications to existing power generation facilities
  • Work on a variety of projects including relay protection upgrades and plant control system upgrades
  • Perform engineering calculation reports
  • Specify major plant equipment such as generators and transformers
  • Coordinate power plant electrical engineering design effort with other HDR disciplines
  • Perform cable, raceway and equipment sizing calculations
  • Execute cable and conduit schedules and routing drawings
  • Develop Input and Output (I/O) List and interface with the plant control system
  • Provide technical leadership with mentorship from senior engineers
  • Execute review of engineering work deliverables following HDR QA/QC procedures
  • Self-manage projects and tasks assigned and provide status updates

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • PE license
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical design for power generation facilities
  • Ability to produce design drawings including one-lines, three-lines, schematics, and connection diagrams
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to being an active participant in the employee-owned culture

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with detailed design for large power generation
  • Prior experience in a consulting engineering environment
  • CADD Software knowledge such as AutoCAD, MicroStation
  • Electrical System Design Software knowledge such as ETAP, SKM, and/or CDEGS
  • Local candidates are preferred
