About the position

The Lead Embedded Hardware Engineer at Eaton's Protection Control and Solutions Group is responsible for designing embedded electronics for low and medium voltage circuit breakers. This role involves leading the development of trip units and enhancing their capabilities, working within a newly formed Advanced Technology team. The engineer will engage in the entire product lifecycle, from design concept to production launch, while collaborating with various teams to innovate and generate intellectual property.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded electronics for power electronics-based circuit protection products.
  • Lead the effort in creating functionality related to electronics, embedded firmware, protection, metering, and communications.
  • Plan work in detail, creating robust and trackable plans coordinated with the larger development team.
  • Review own work and others' work in formal design and quality reviews.
  • Test own work or work of others to meet quality and reliability goals.
  • Develop technical expertise in embedded electronics design and become a subject matter expert for breaker functionality.
  • Provide domain expertise to product support personnel to resolve field issues.
  • Conduct technical research and investigations in collaboration with external technology resources.
  • Generate value-added intellectual property.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing embedded electronics.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with supporting the transition of designs into a production environment.
  • Experience with C and C++ programming languages.
  • Experience in electronics control development for solid state and hybrid circuit breakers.
  • Experience with wireless communications systems, such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and Zigbee/Matter.
  • Experience with embedded firmware in 8 bit through 32 bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex, PIC).
  • Experience with Real-time Operating systems.
  • Experience in developing device drivers and hardware bringup.
  • Experience with design sharing tools and multi-person development.
