The Lead Engineer - Electric System Eng at Avangrid is responsible for leading engineering activities related to electric transmission and system protection projects. This role involves planning, controlling, and managing project activities to ensure the effective completion of engineering and design for construction projects. The Lead Engineer will serve as a liaison with various departments, divisions, vendors, and consultants, while also coordinating with government agencies, customers, and other utilities. A critical aspect of this position is to apply and interpret company, local, state, and national codes and standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Lead Engineer will conduct feasibility studies, complete estimates, and develop engineering criteria to support project objectives. In this role, the Lead Engineer will perform engineering analysis of the electric transmission system, recommending actions to develop design options or recommendations for protective relay systems aimed at minimizing customer outages due to equipment failure or system malfunction. The position requires the engineer to originate electric system and component reliability studies, outage contingency plans, and capital budget proposals, including a complete business case. The Lead Engineer will also recommend system improvements, develop economic project proposals for enhancements, and provide project management for major transmission construction projects. Additionally, the Lead Engineer will develop and validate information needed for engineering analyses, applying engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems. This role includes directing engineering contractors and consultants, demonstrating new technology, and implementing it to enhance power system performance. The Lead Engineer will provide construction management, coordinating field construction of transmission lines, developing technical specifications, standards, contracts, and purchase orders. They will administer contract terms and conditions, track budgets and schedules, supervise field construction to ensure compliance, and approve changes within contract scope while negotiating contract settlements.
