About the position

The Mechanical Systems Section in the Strategic Aerospace Department is seeking a lead engineer to manage multidisciplinary teams in executing engineering projects that enhance national security. This role involves mechanical design, multi-physics analysis, and providing technical guidance to junior staff while supporting the Department of Defense with the sustainment and modernization of legacy hardware.

Responsibilities

• Lead large multidisciplinary teams to execute cradle-to-grave science and engineering projects.
• Generate mechanical requirements specifications, solid models, and fabrication/assembly drawings.
• Conduct structural, thermal, dynamic, and dimensional tolerance analyses.
• Support hardware testing activities to validate prototype performance against extreme environmental conditions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical staff.
• Propose and perform internal research and development for new mechanical technologies.
• Interact with colleagues and project leadership to present results and guide design development decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• 8 years of experience in mechanical design development processes and analysis-based design verification/validation.
• 8 years of self-motivated experience with strong organizational and communication skills.
• 8 years of experience developing mechanical solid models using commercial CAD software (Solidworks preferred).
• 5 years of experience validating mechanical designs using FEA or multiphysics simulation packages (e.g., ANSYS, Solidworks Simulation).
• Experience with analytical/scientific programming software (e.g., Excel, Matlab, Python).
• A valid/clear driver's license.
