About the position

The Lead Engineer - Transmission Planning at Avangrid Service Company is responsible for leading and performing reliability and economic-driven studies related to transmission systems. This role involves analyzing complex transmission systems, documenting results, and collaborating with internal teams and industry peers. The engineer will also mentor team members and strive for continuous improvement in transmission planning processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate, perform, and lead reliability and economic-driven studies including voltage, thermal, PV, transfer limit, short circuit, and stability assessments.
  • Analyze and assess complex transmission systems at various voltage levels.
  • Document and communicate results and recommendations, including data manipulation, report writing, and summary presentations.
  • Innovate and integrate improvements to increase the precision and efficiency of transmission planning.
  • Develop subject matter expert skills to mentor and support the team.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and industry peers on regional activities.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of planning criteria, guidelines, and standards.
  • Participate in transmission and substation site inspections and attend industry workshops.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., MSEE, PE) are a plus.
  • 7+ years of industry-related experience.
  • Theoretical engineering knowledge in planning, operations, and engineering design.
  • Practical engineering experience in planning, operations, and engineering design, including field experience.
  • Ability to document and interpret engineering documentation and review engineering work done by others.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards and requirements (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC).
  • Proficiency in power system analytics software (e.g., PSSE, TARA, ASPEN).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in T&S Engineering, P&C, or related fields.
