About the position

As a Lead Environmental Specialist at Sargent & Lundy, you will be a key member of the Environmental Licensing and Permitting team, responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and implementing environmental regulatory requirements for various nuclear power projects. This role involves utilizing your expertise in NRC environmental regulations and engineering principles to support project teams and clients in developing effective environmental mitigation and compliance strategies. You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of environmental regulations while collaborating with multi-disciplined teams and managing project tasks to ensure timely and budget-conscious delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Review and implement federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for nuclear projects.
  • Develop strategies for cost-effective mitigation compliance plans.
  • Prepare site-specific environmental reports and studies for proposed nuclear facilities.
  • Collaborate with project engineers to ensure compliance with environmental requirements in project designs.
  • Prepare permit applications and liaise with regulatory agencies.
  • Draft complex technical reports, including environmental impact assessments and compliance audits.
  • Prepare Environmental Reports in accordance with NRC requirements for license applicants.
  • Develop federal Environmental Impact Statements or NEPA documents as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in preparing federal Environmental Reports and NEPA documents.
  • Strong understanding of federal environmental regulations, particularly the National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Experience with site-specific environmental surveys, including ecology and wetlands studies.
  • Familiarity with environmental laws applicable to nuclear facilities, such as the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act.
  • Experience in environmental impact assessment and permitting, including NPDES and wetlands permitting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and interact effectively with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with major source air permitting.
  • Knowledge of Threatened & Endangered Species Act regulations.
