About the position

The Lead Food Service Worker plays a crucial role in providing safe, accurate, and timely food service to customers and patients. This position involves various responsibilities including stocking, assembling, and serving food, as well as maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in food service areas. The worker will support management and operations across different food service areas, including retail, patient, and catering services, while ensuring compliance with food safety standards. Additionally, the role includes oversight of food service operations, cash management, and providing excellent customer interactions, acting as an ambassador for the Department of Nutrition and Food Services.

Responsibilities

  • Stock, assemble, and serve portion-controlled hot and cold food.
  • Replenish and stock food service stations.
  • Clean and sanitize food service areas and equipment.
  • Assist with daily cash management duties including cash, credit, and debit transactions.
  • Provide oversight of the food service unit under management guidance.
  • Support staff and monitor operations to ensure food service and safety standards are met.
  • Assist with department audits, documentation, inventory, and ordering.
  • Troubleshoot general day-to-day operational issues and support quality improvement projects.
  • Cover sick calls and provide support as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years of customer-facing experience within the food service, hospitality, or retail industries.
  • Ability to read, write, follow written or oral instructions, and be understood in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Ability to meet physical demands involved with job duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of college or equivalent.
  • State of California Food Handler certification or ServSafe Manager certification.
  • Experience in lead roles within food service, hospitality, or retail industries.
