About the position

The Lead, Fresh Cut Produce position at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department in a retail store. This role ensures that associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, and operations meet company standards and performance indicators. The lead will manage inventory, support the department manager in various tasks, and maintain product quality and freshness while adhering to safety and food handling guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities of the produce department in the absence of the department manager.
• Order and maintain inventory while utilizing inventory control procedures.
• Review and validate received orders for quality and condition.
• Manage a team to ensure product quality and date-sensitive rotation.
• Maintain familiarity with all products in the department and store.
• Communicate and execute weekly and period Flight Plans to company expectations.
• Support the department manager in scheduling, labor control, and payroll management.
• Implement company values and model core competencies.
• Assist in staffing, training, and performance management of associates.
• Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts.
• Participate in daily huddles and manager meetings as required.
• Maintain a clean and well-stocked department following company standards.
• Follow all PPE, safety, and food safety guidelines.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) required.
• 0-2 years of retail experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organization, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership abilities in a hands-on environment.
• Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
• Knowledge of retail store operations and management systems.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.
