About the position

The Lead Grants Specialist at the American Red Cross plays a crucial role in supporting the fundraising department by developing and implementing strategies to enhance donor engagement and retention. This position involves writing grant proposals, stewardship reports, and managing donor communications, all aimed at increasing revenue through workplace giving campaigns and grants. The role requires strong project management and persuasive writing skills, and it operates in a hybrid work environment, balancing remote work with occasional in-person meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, develop, and implement strategies to increase revenue through workplace giving campaigns and grant proposals.
  • Enhance relationships with foundations and government agencies in support of funding needs.
  • Participate in grant/funding development through grant research, selection, and proposal writing processes.
  • Ensure grant program's adherence to American Red Cross, government and industry guidelines.
  • Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
  • Implement and create best practices on workplace giving for United Way and other foundations.
  • Identify, pursue, cultivate, and enhance relationships with foundations and government agencies in support of funding needs.
  • Provide guidance and collaborate with Leaders to develop and execute the strategy to build grantor relationships, streamline the grant process, and increase support.
  • Work closely with colleagues across departments to ensure that the organization takes full advantage of programmatic funding opportunities.
  • Maintain grant proposals and reporting calendar.
  • Personally responsible for researching and writing grant proposals and reports.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and exploration to advise others regarding suitable foundations, agencies, or corporations for funding needs.
  • Gather and analyze information required for donor communications including service deliver statistics, financial information, impact stories, and community profiles.
  • Conduct regular trend analysis and share pertinent data with relevant stakeholders.
  • Create donor stewardship reports and author a variety of donor communications.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in use of Personal Computer, word-processing, spreadsheet applications, and database applications when applicable.
  • Ability to work on a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising strategies.
  • Familiarity with donor management software.
