About the position

The Health Services Specialist at Seaboard Triumph Foods plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of employees who sustain injuries while on the job. This position involves providing immediate medical care and triage for work-related injuries, adhering to company protocols to ensure that employees receive the appropriate treatment. The specialist will work closely with the Workers' Compensation Manager to maintain accurate records and manage the workers' compensation files effectively. This includes scheduling doctor appointments, maintaining contact with claimants, and assisting with the restricted duty program. The working hours for this position are from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of Saturday shifts if production is ongoing. In this role, the Health Services Specialist will be responsible for the timely and accurate completion of First Reports of Injury and will maintain and update employee workers' compensation records in the CCMSI's ICE system, following established policies and procedures. Effective communication is essential, as the specialist will need to keep all members of the health services department informed about the status of claimants and any relevant updates regarding injured employees. The specialist will also act as a liaison between health professionals, workers' compensation adjusters, and management, ensuring that all parties are informed about the status of claims and any specific issues that may arise. Additionally, the Health Services Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and timeliness of data entry on the OSHA 300 Log, under the direction of the Plant Safety Manager. Confidentiality is paramount in this role, as the specialist must adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding medical data. Overall, the Health Services Specialist is expected to uphold the values and Codes of Conduct of Seaboard Triumph Foods at all times, contributing to a safe and compliant workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Triage, treat (first aid) and direct appropriate medical care as needed for all work-related injuries within company protocols.
  • Accurately and timely completion of First Reports of Injury and maintain and update employee work comp records in CCMSI's ICE system according to established policies/procedures.
  • Effectively communicate and update all members of the health services department on the status of claimants.
  • Effectively communicate with the worker's compensation manager, health services specialists and operation management keeping them updated and informed on open claims, status of injured employees and any specific issues.
  • Act as a liaison between health professionals, work comp adjusters, work comp manager and management regarding the status of injured employees.
  • Maintain the accuracy and timeliness of data entry on the OSHA 300 Log under the direction of the Plant Safety Manager.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of all medical data in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Adhere and support all values/Codes of Conduct of the company at all times.

Requirements

  • Experience in a health services or medical role, preferably in a workplace setting.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation processes and OSHA regulations.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive medical information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Proficient in data entry and record-keeping, particularly in workers' compensation and OSHA logs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience with CCMSI's ICE system or similar workers' compensation management software.
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards.
